May 10th, 2010:

I am literally on top of the world right now. The wind is blowing, and dusk has settled. A few minutes ago, the dusk’s blue swallowed the orange day setting, and soon, these lights will sparkle like a million stars earthbound. I still have these moments, you know? These breathtaking moments when I realized I’ve finally made it to live in this City. As much as I’ve sacrificed, I’m here. Learning to believe, getting up to face each day with more courage than the day before. I’m in such a beautiful place right now. The world is opening itself up for us all. Thank you, thank you.

There’s something about the way that beat drops that makes my heart fall. It’s as if it’s remembering a memory of the future, or feeling, again, a pulse my heart has once known. Today I finally got to watch the video, and it struck a powerful chord. For those of you who know my work, you know that I like to write about love. You also know I like to explore the contexts of race, and how it affects our society. Sometimes when those two concepts collide, it becomes a heartbreak hard to bear. I appreciate this video for its poignant message of love’s politic, and shows that even through generations, certain kinds of heartbreaks have yet to be overcome.

This is my own take on love’s politic, a video I’m sure you all have seen many times before- this was me in 2004- try not to make fun of me! Haha. Yet, I find it appropriate to share this again, as the message remains fresh in my heart, and exercised through new relationships…

My friend Guerre is a gentleman, style savant, and a photographer extraordinaire. More importantly, he is a gentleman who carries his presence impeccably. It is a huge compliment that he offered to take my pics in submission to NYC publication METRO, and we shall be hearing soon whether it will be a go for an upcoming issue.

This was taken in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, during a time when I was watching Audrey Hepburn films. It’s my humble take on a vintage and modern day glamour girl next door, doing my best not to freeze in the middle of a BK winter. Like Andre three thou, Ice Cold!

A few months ago, Blair answered and submitted to an open artist invite put on by Ryan Leslie and Talenthouse, a new online platform connecting young up and coming artists with big names. They are currently also working with supermodel Naomi Campbell in search of a new face, and Rik Cordero for a film maker for an upcoming project. I’m all about places that support the development and success of artists and creators, so I’m excited for young people like Blair making big leaps.
