A lovely time at Cornell

I just got back from a lovely weekend at Cornell University, and am feeling inspired from all the wonderful young Asian American sistas/bruddahs/next generation leaders that I met during my stay. It was an honor to speak about the meaning of being a “fierce” and empowered Asian American woman, and to share my personal mission statement that drives the movement I’m creating to redefine the concepts, images, and generalizations of what being AsianĀ  and (an Asian woman at that) means in America.

As I proceed to make my visions manifest into reality, I am learning more and more each day how I can narrow in to make my mission clear. So world, I proudly present to you my Personal Mission Statement that I apply to all my creative projects (spanning from youth education, publishing, fashion, and media):

To redefine the concepts of glamour and elegance in a way that encompasses themes of strength, inner beauty, and positive social impact through creative expression and the advocacy of social change, and to empower others to own their highest brilliance by encouraging the pursuit of their dreams and passions to better themselves & the world as a whole.

I come with this intention, and let the Universe handle the rest.

As Dr. Howard Thurman says:

Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs are people who have come alive.
