my encounter with the top of the world.

yesterday, after roaming around Bedstuy for hours apartment hunting, i’d grown weary, tired, and disappointed with my housing options. admittedly, it was starting to feel really hopeless, and I told my flatmate Mawuse that i need to escape the Toni Morrison novel that has become my life. (dramatic, that’s my style okay.) when everyone warned me that apartment hunting in nyc was really difficult, i thought i’d get a free pass and have luck land in my lap, as it has so many times before. ah well. at least its an opportunity to explore brooklyn! stuyvesant heights, make room for me, please.

anyhow, after hours of sad face, we went over to the lower east side to celebrate my boy J Nicholson’s birthday, and ran into some friendly strangers along the way. (new york is infamous for random moments, and they can be the most fun kind). after some cajoling, martin, colin, and stephanie finally convinced us to climb atop the Rivington hotel for a party on the rooftop, and lo and behold, i was reminded, yet again, of the awe and magnificence of living in this city. suddenly, the 4 hour marathon of exhaustion and sad faces was washed away by this breathtaking view of my new reality. oh new york, you love me. but can you ease up on the tough love just a little and find me a home? thank you. :)
