Cause I’m Coming Home Again

My goodness. I can’t believe I’m finally home. Ain’t nothing like Oakland sunshine peeking through my window blinds on spring bay mornings. What a beautiful sight to wake up to. I can’t believe I was just in Chicago a few hours ago, bumpin’ Kanye while strolling down Wabash, singing “homecoming” under my breath celebrating both my own homecoming and chi-town’s magnificent landscape. It’s incredibly breathtaking. Chicago’s got the most beautiful skyline, and I’m astounded and awed every single time I overlook it.

A self-proclaimed Louis Vuitton Donna, I learn my swagger points from Kanye- (Drizz and I are frequent visitors of his blog, teehee) and visiting Chicago, its no wonder why he reps it so hard. I’ve discovered one of my favorite life experiences is running along Lake Michigan on sunny Chicago mornings bumpin’ Lupe, Common, Yeezie, and the Family Matters theme song on my iPod, wind kissing my face. Yes, the Family Matters theme song! I remember driving into Chicago last year with that song as our entrance fanfare, and my heart swelled. I swear I saw a Winslow around the corner, and felt right at home.

It’s an odd thing to change cities like clothes. Yesterday, I had brunch with my Chi-town fam, shopped down State Street, took pictures in Millenium Park, and made it back in time to Cali before midnight. I love Chicago for reunions. I love when life brings resolutions.

Sometimes, I can’t believe how beautiful life is. I’m so blessed. We just finished a month long tour, and my goodness, we made it. Even through those long crazy drives from upstate ny to michigan, crusty eyed and full off water and trail mix, we arrived safe, ready to get to the next show. And even through those hard days where energies are low, our bodies ache, and nico’s insides are drenched with red bull, we know we carry each other (or cary each other, get it?). There aren’t very many people I can spend every single day with for this long, but my crew…man, this tour really proved how special we are. I’m sure some groups discover how annoying it can be to tour with the same people for so long, but I came out of this tour loving them even more. We ride together (and not just cause we’re in the same car, teehee), we break bread together, we pray together, we struggle together, we follow our dreams together, and tonight, we’re seeing our idol Jigga rip it at the Heart of the City concert together. Can’t stop, won’t stop baby!!

My, it’s good to be home. Time to spark California! What a homecoming. This video says it all..

  1. [...] Chicago has always had a very special place in my heart. There is nothing, nothing, nothing, like going for a run by Lake Michigan and breathing in the Chicago skyline. That Chi-Town skyline is, in my opinion, the most gorgeous skyline in all of America. And I say this all without even knowing what summer time Chi is like. I can only imagine. These days, all my inspirations have been from this place. Thank you. Chi, I can’t wait to see you again! [...]
